Why This Win Still Might Not Guarantee a Title Shot

Here’s the complicated part. Reigning lightweight champion Justin Gaethje has already said he doesn’t plan on fighting again until sometime next year, and Ilia Topuria recently called out Gaethje directly on social media, which could set up a rematch between those two before Tsarukyan ever gets his shot. After two years of being passed over, Tsarukyan might have delivered the most emphatic performance of his career and still find himself waiting a little longer.

If that happens, at least this time nobody can question whether he deserves it.
